Which Beco version is the ONE for you? Only you can decide! But I can help! This is a list of the basic differences between the Gemini and the Butterfly II, and for a more in depth look at the similarities, read this post at the PAXbaby babywearing blog!
In a nutshell:
Butterfly II
removable infant insert
integrated insert
possible to pass baby in carrier to other parent
breastfeeding is possible
sun shade/ napping hood
chest strap for backpack style wearing
easy back carrying
carries children up to 45 pounds
Beco Gemini
no removable infant or integrated insert
breastfeeding is easy
possible to cross shoulder straps
chest strap for backpack style wearing
foldable headrest
front panel folds in and secures with snaps for front facing out position
Keep in mind that this is an early version from before I tried it in September! A lot of changes have been made since then, I’m sure! what has stayed the same is that now there is a carrier offering the same options as the Baby Bjorn, but now in style and COMFORTABLY! The Gemini has the front facing option, but you certainly don’t NEED to use that capability. Front facing out, front facing in, or back, the Gemini is versatile without losing that Beco comfort.
The PAXbaby mama has some strong feelings when it comes to babywearing, so I jumped up on my soap box today - Beco Butterfly and all - and voiced my opinion about Baby Bjorn and the other crotch dangler baby carrier manufacturers that have flooded the market with their uncomfortable, China-made baby carriers that are bought for new parents and more often than not, turn them away from “extended” babywearing due to the crick in their necks and sore shoulders from their Snugli, Bjorn Synergy, Eurorider, etc! Kyndal, Justin, and Lola star in this hilarious Beco Butterflycontest video! I literally laughed out loud, and then emailed the link to all my babywearing friends! And thanks for the shout out to PAXbaby, Kyndal! Want to make your own video to win a Beco? Follow these rules and have fun!
