While purchasing a new Beco Baby Carrier is certainly worth the price, I know not everyone can afford a new Beco. We get asked regularly about sales and special deals on the Beco Butterfly, but these don’t happen often, so if you’re looking to save a little money, the best way may be to buy used.
CraigsList.org is a great place to start. CraigsList exists in nearly every major city in the US. Buying locally and in-person is usually the safest way to go. You might need to stalk the baby section of your local CraigsList to find a Beco, but they do show up there on occasion. You could also put out an “In Search Of” listing, or ISO. Someone may have a Beco that they aren’t using any longer!
If you’re in the Seattle area, you can score this cute Beco Butterfly I in the Ethan print! And at $85, it’s an excellent deal!
Another online resource is TheBabyWearer.com, an online forum of everything babywearing. There is a For Sale or Trade section where members can buy and sell used carriers. You will need to have a minimum number of posts in other sections before you will be allowed to post in the FSOT forum, but there’s no shortage of interesting things to get involved with on this lively website.
Finally, keep an eye on eBay. This Butterfly I in Jack has an opening bid of only $20! Jack is a super cool skulls print that only appeared on the Beco Butterfly I for a limited time.
The least expensive options will probably be Butterfly I carriers, but they are still the same comfortable baby carrier available now. The most notable difference is the infant insert on Butterfly I carriers are not removable.
And the last thing to note, if you’re finished with your babywearing years or perhaps you just want to trade in your Beco for one of the new organic line, these are also great places to list your carrier for sale. Another great perk of a quality baby carrier like the Beco is they retain a good resale value, even with a few years of use on them!

The PAXbaby mama has some strong feelings when it comes to babywearing, so I jumped up on my soap box today - Beco Butterfly and all - and voiced my opinion about Baby Bjorn and the other crotch dangler baby carrier manufacturers that have flooded the market with their uncomfortable, China-made baby carriers that are bought for new parents and more often than not, turn them away from “extended” babywearing due to the crick in their necks and sore shoulders from their Snugli, Bjorn Synergy, Eurorider, etc! Read more about big box brands and how to spread the love of babywearing at PAXbaby!

It’s laundry day at the House of Beco! Our Blue Scooter Beco Butterfly II got rudely stepped on after our adventure at the park the other day, so, into the washing machine it went! I did not pre-treat the fabric for fear that the twill would fade differently, but I did use Charlie’s Soap, my favorite detergent!, and a full cold water cycle on gentle with an extra pre-rinse with vinegar to set the color! Don’t forget to clip the buckles together too to avoid tangles! It came out looking great, squeeky clean, and went to enjoy a line dry outside in the shade.

We know you all love your Beco, you never leave the house without it! Sometimes bad things happen to even the best loved carriers, and it can be devastating. There have been many reports recently of Beco waist belts breaking, so we did a little investigation.
Moms have been reporting that the prongs on their waist buckles are breaking when they are snapping it into place. Have no fear! Your beloved carrier can and will be fixed! There was a bad batch of waist belts that were used on the Beco Butterfly II carriers manufactured in 2009. Exactly which carriers have the defective buckles and which don’t is hard to determine, but fortunately with the safety seat in the Beco Butterfly II, there should be no danger if your waist buckle happens to be one that breaks!
If you are unfortunate enough to have a broken waist buckle, this is completely covered under your Beco warranty and will be replaced for you at no cost. Simply send an email to Beco Customer Service explaining that your buckle has broken. Be sure to include your name and address, and they will get a new buckle out to you ASAP.
When your buckle arrives in the mail, simply unthread the broken buckle from your waist strap and re-thread with the new buckle. Replace both halves of the buckle, as not all buckles are the same, and you want to make sure that you have matching pieces!
Before ya know it, you will be back on the trail with your baby in your favorite carrier!
