The NEW Beco carrier - GEMINI

Beco Baby GeminiAs a vendor, and a very special person, hahaa, I tried on a prototype of the new carrier from Beco last September at the ABC Kids Show. I have been waiting patiently, OK, not so patiently, for more information! We now know that it will be called Gemini and is due to be released this spring!

The Gemini is a smaller bodied carrier than Beco’s previous models, and designed to carry babies on your front, back, hip, or, gasp!, front facing out! The facing out position is somewhat controversial, but some mamas swear that their babies will not tolerate facing towards them. So, a great rule of thumb for younger babies to avoid over-stimulation is to limit facing out time to 15-20 minutes and if you see baby’s head turning to the side, that usually means that they are trying to block out some of the action and should be turned back around to face mommy.

Beco Baby Gemini Straps CrossedAlthough the Gemini can be used with young babies, I comfortably wore my then-10 month old on my front and back in this prototype Gemini!  In the tradition of the Beco 4th Generation, the shoulder straps could be unbuckled under the arms and re-fastened as crossed straps across your back.  The headrest can be folded down, and the edges of the body of the carrier can be folded inwards and fastened, making the body narrower and more comfortable for smaller babies. (All of these details were true for the version of the Gemini I tried in September 2009. We will, of course, give you the full scoop on the Gemini as soon as more information is released!)

Only time will tell if mainstream moms will adopt this new chic baby carrier for their front facing babies, or whether the blase Bjorn ( that’s bla-zay, ladies!) will continue to be the generic go to carrier.

The part I’m most excited about??? The luscious purple straps that may be available on the first round of Beco Geminis!  Stay tuned for more information, a pre-order special, and more Beco news!

These are adorable, the fabric prints are the cutest I’ve seen yet! And it LOOKS comfortable, especially with those padded shoulder straps. I have a snugli from my first child, talk about a back breaker! I think I am going to try this one instead with my second child! Over at http://www.allreviews.com/baby-carriers/2009/12/22/beco-carrier-permits-front-or-back-baby-wearing/ i read they also make mini carriers for children to carry dolls. Too cute!

I like the look and the outfacing carry for older babies. I like the crossing straps. I don’t like that it dosn’t keep the baby in the pack when you take it off. The whole reason I got the beco was for ease of back carry with wiggly toddlers. The butterfly makes it so easy to just slip the carrier onto him like a pair of pants and then I can swing him up and onto my back just like a backpack. So much easier than the other SS packs I have tried.

Actually, that review is for the Beco Butterfly II, and the child sized Beco is ADORABLE!!! My kids love theirs!!! :)

We don’t have a set date from Beco headquarters, but we have been told to keep our ears open for news closer to Summertime… sigh….

I prefer my Beco 4th Gen because of the crossable and easily unclickable straps…can lay DS down in the crib with NO wakings…my new Butterfly II is a PITB to get him out of…impossible to keep him from waking when laying him down out of the carrier. So I end up using the 4th Gen in the house and the BFly II for outings. Wish I could just have one that did it all…perhaps this will be it.
Also I *hate*hate*hate* the new fasteners on the BFly II that require TWO HANDS to unclick…that’s ridiculous…Jillian, did the Gemini you used have those?

Well, I guess I’m one of those controversial horrible mothers who “claims” my baby won’t sit facing in. If I put her in facing me, she screams, knees me in the ribs, and uses my face to push off of so that she can turn her body and see what’s “behind” her. If I put her facing out she swings her legs, claps her hands, and yes, she can even turn her head to see my face if she needs to. Someone call CPS!!! Since my 9 mo old is nearing 18 pounds it’s really not safe for me to have her in a moby anymore, and so I, personally am really excited for the gemini. In the meantime, I guess I have to get a woven wrap and see if she’ll tolerate back caries. Hurry up beco!

does the flap fold up for neck support on infants facing me? I have a baby who likes to lean back and I really need something that will support his head/neck when I’m at the store and can’t hold his head.

    thank you

  9. mBB mama Says:

Yes it does! It will flip up and attach to the shoulder straps with snaps, so it will support your little ones head and neck without you having to use your hands! :)
